Thinking of my high school sweetheart makes me smile.
If you're not already taken, would you marry- I mean be my locker partner- next year? If you're already taken, that's fine- I'll just kill myself, that's all. :)
I think the most charming thing about our relationship was that we were genuinely best friends.
People suspected that we were secretly in love, and we were in a way. It was complicated.
We sort of yo-yoed between being friends and lovers. We had to try really hard to make the lovers part work. The friendship was effortless. It was always a relief when we could take a vacation from trying to be a couple and just enjoy each other. His family accepted me as an inevitable cling-on and brought me with them on trips and things.
I tell you, his family is OBSESSED with Mexican food and Rook. I've never seen anything like it. And I've seen some of the most peculiar things... his aunt, Genie, lives in a tiny one-floor house. She's a cripple and everything in her house is lowered so she can get to it in her wheelchair.
His uncle, Bruce, has fashioned his home out of a BOXCAR!! I had to pee and discovered too late that he has NO DOOR to his bathroom, so I had to go with D (mom) standing watch while there were three men in the other room!
Even though we struggled to make it work as a couple, we loved each other so much that we couldn't let go of the hope of ending up together someday.
This promise is bound by blood freely spilt. Witness: Marn.
Did you have a high school sweetheart? Tell us all about it! WBS- Jess
