Ok, I am really starting to hate these wretched nicknames. Moo Moo. Really?? I’m just going to call him “Mister.”
My teacher, Mister, had a gentle voice and a wonderful presence. He wore these lumpy, cable knit sweaters, and whenever he told an amusing story he would push his sleeves up on his arms so he could gesture more comfortably. I don’t know why, but that little habit was so swoon-inducing. One blonde squad girlfriend (Moo Moo gave our group that name!) was in his class with me, and she too fell under his spell.
Mister had this trick of smiling into your soul, as though you were the most inspiring person he had been with in a long time, as though his tired spirit was refreshed just by talking to you. That’s how he made people feel.
I loved him.
Here’s an excerpt from my journal about the time I cut my foot on a jagged rock and Mister came to my aid:
I sliced my foot open and Mr. —— checked it out for me. (Did I ever mention that Mr. —— is the hottest man alive? Too bad he’s my —— teacher, right?)
He told me I was white as a sheet and asked if it hurt very bad. I told him through clenched teeth with sweat breaking out on my forehead and a shaky voice that I was fine. He told me I was brave, and suddenly the pain wasn’t nearly as bad. But that’s Mr. —— for you.
I wanted to lean over and lay a huge wet-one on him, but I just looked away and tried to calm my heart. It felt like it was going to leap out of my chest and kiss him itself!
Oh, young love! Hero worship has to be the purest kind of love, because it expects nothing in return. Nothing but to stand in the glow of that one radiant person you are so inspired by.
My friend was crazy for “Moo Moo” too, and frequently wrote me notes and comics about him.
Do you see how it was? Just being NOTICED by this teacher was enough to make our day.
Not having an outlet for all the pent-up adoration, we decided to kiss some of Mister’s desk accessories on the last day of school while we had a moment alone in his classroom. It helped.
Here's what he signed in my yearbook that day:
What?? I've been a good friend?? Psh. Men. ;) Ever had a crush on a teacher? Spill! WBS- Jess
